Many people have approached me trying to guess what I might do next. For those who have been following my journey this past year, I am excited to finally let you know where we have landed.
I have written much about fostering and adoption on this blog. I’ve told many people how the process of caring for kids in need has transformed my family. Little did I know just how true that statement was.
My wife, kids and I have spent much time talking and praying about where God could use us to make the biggest impact. We have turned down leadership positions within churches, as well as a few different non-profit ministries. With each one, there was something about it that just didn’t seem right to us.
But today we begin a new season.
Today I am starting my new role as the President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of East Texas.
When the Board of Directors for this ministry first shared their desire to see the kids and families within the East Texas community transformed by Christ, I began to dream about what that could look like. I think our city is in need of a strong “bridge” organization that could help connect the church to community.
In the future, I hope to see thousands of kids being impacted by this ministry. It might be through the sports leagues, after school programs, mentoring relationships, or other programs through the BGC.
This morning I will be introducing my wife and kids to the staff, and sharing with them about the need and opportunity for a ministry like this in our community. And then the process of learning will begin for me.
If you think about it, please pray for the staff and partners of this ministry. Any transition can be difficult. Yet I hope that we will quickly get through it and begin the great work that God has for us.
This ought to be fun….
