About
Let me introduce myself…
Hey there, I’m Kevin. I am the founder and leader of Mentoring Alliance, a non-profit ministry based in Texas. I’m married to my sweet wife, Stephanie, and together have 5 kids – 3 biological and 2 adopted. We’ve also been foster parents for over 10 years.
I love inspiring others to follow Jesus, not just to live hollow lives filled with moral, religious activity. There is a difference.
That’s why I started a blog over 10 years ago called, “Following to Lead.” I wrote mainly about following Jesus, organizational leadership, and family – you know…marriage, parenting, fostering, adoption, mentoring. All the good stuff.
It wasn’t until recently I added a podcast with the same purpose and have begun working on books and various video series as well.
I grew up going to church. Maybe you did too. But it wasn’t until a guy on staff with Young Life pursued me, invested in me, and modeled a life I wanted to live that my life was changed. That was back when I was in high school. A lot has changed since then.
After working at a church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a few years, I went on staff with Pine Cove, a large Christian summer camp. Having been a counselor during the summers when I was in college, I loved the impact I saw of people pouring into the lives of others. So I eventually joined them full-time.
I spent 15 years on staff there, learning how to lead, all while influencing the lives of tens of thousands of people that came through there as campers and staff.
Somewhere in the middle of all that I saw a really cute girl at church, so I asked some friends of mine to set us up. Best decision I ever made.
We dated for a few months, got engaged in a really fun way in New York City, and have been married for almost 20 years now. She gently led me to consider fostering kids. God used that experience to reveal a burden He had placed in me – for kids and families from hard places.
So in 2012 I jumped ship at Pine Cove and helped “re-found” a local organization to become a thriving, Christ-centered, intentionally multiethnic ministry connecting godly people as mentors to kids in their community – so they can offer tangible help and eternal hope.
Now Mentoring Alliance operates in a growing number of communities, and in each one helping the churches there connect to people on the “other side of town.”
“Following to Lead” is an extension of that. It’s merely me inviting you to join me as I follow Jesus as well as the example of others, all while I share nuggets of what I’ve learned over the decades in various leadership roles.
I’m so glad you’ve joined the conversation here. I look forward to interacting with you in the near future.
